Early Morning and Late Afternoon Birding Tours



These tours are for the novice or more experienced birder wanting to start the Wetlanders Festival off right. We will travel by bus through Nature Conservancy and Cheyenne Bottoms wildlife areas.  A naturalist will lead the tour and point out various birds that are passing through the Bottoms during their Spring migration, as well as other wildlife and points of interest the Bottoms have to offer. The tour will stop by the Wetlands Education Center before returning to the pick up location. Be sure to bring a pair of binoculars, your favorite bird book, Bird Watching Enthusiastsand watchful eyes if you have them. These tours will last about 90 minutes.


Early Morning Tour

  • Cost is $10 per person
  • Space limited to 11 people.
  • Bus tour leaves at 9:30 a.m. (meet at Lebert Park next to the Welcome Center at 115 North Main Street)

Late Afternoon Tour (This tour is a repeat of the morning tour.)

  • Cost is $10 per person
  • Space limited to 11 people.
  • Bus tour leaves at 3:00 p.m. (meet at Lebert Park next to the Welcome Center at 115 North Main Street)

Famous or Infamous "Redneck Tours"


These tours are for the individual looking for a comedic interpretation of the back roads of Cheyenne Bottoms and the Nature Conservancy lands. Each tour is limited to 6 to 8 people and will last 45 - 60 minutes.  The first tour leaves at 1:30 p.m. followed by subsequent tours every hour. You will be entertained from the moment your bus drops you off in the middle of nowhere. You will board your unconventional mode of transportation and journey to the geometric center of the State of Kansas. Bring your cameras if you'd like to have your picture taken with some ornery characters or cartoon cutouts at the end of your tour. Your tour guide hosts will be Bubba, Billy Bob, Earl, and Jethro.

  • Registration starts Saturday, April 16 at 9:00 a.m.
  • Be sure to register early because seats fill up fast!! Buy your tickets at the Welcome Center, 115 North Main Street.
  • Bus seating is limited to 6-8 people.
  • Meet at Lebert Park next to the Welcome Center at 115 North Main Street 15 minutes prior to your departure time.
  • The bus will bring you back to the departure area.

WARNING: Since this is truly a back road experience, we are at the mercy of Mother Naurre. In other words, if the mud is too deep, we'll have to cut out a few skits, but we'll do our best to entertain you and guarantee your won't be bored. Since we use a very unusual mode of transportation, you must be physically capable of climbing a narrow set of steps to get to your seat. If you are physically not able to climb our steps, you have the option of riding in our tow vehicle.
